Williamson was later hired as a Monday Night Football announcer, replacing Don Meredith who left for another network. For his first game, during the 1974 preseason, he wore a necklace showing an upraised middle finger. He proved to be so terrible as a broadcaster that he was fired before the regular season began, replaced by former Detroit Lion Alex Karras.
