Star Wars Question 2
10Q - You slide through the opening in the wall and into the secret passage. Unsurprisingly, it’s booby-trapped: a bomb will go off unless you can insert an eye-related book into the correct spot in Guildeneye’s science fiction collection. In the Expanded Universe (EU) of “Star Wars”, where does the novel “Splinter of the Mind’s Eye” fit into the storyline?
The correct answer is 'Between “A New Hope” and “The Empire Strikes Back”'
When the bomb doesn’t explode, you breathe a sigh of relief and thank your lucky stars for ing, who once told you all about that series in the cafeteria at Headquarters. “Splinter of the Mind’s Eye” was written by Alan Dean Foster in 1978, and marks the beginning of the “Star Wars” Expanded Universe (EU). It was based largely on an early draft of the George Lucas credited (Foster ghost-written) script for “Star Wars” (aka “A New Hope”, first released in 1977), and it was planned that a low-budget film version would be made if the first movie flopped. Lucas claimed to have the entire story and universe planned from the beginning, but elements of “Splinter” would seem to contradict this view. For example, the feelings between Luke and Leia - hinted at in the original movie as being other than those appropriate between siblings – are portrayed as almost steamy at times. Also, Leia is not seen as being “at one with the Force”, and Luke has to recharge his Lightsaber (and of course everyone knows Lightsabers have an in-built life-time power supply – duh!)
”I feel an especial fondness for this book,” ing told you, “as it appeared on our bookshelf not long after it was released, and became one of the first “grown up” books I read, aged about 10. Didn’t _understand_ half of it, but read it all the way through! And I’ve always thought it was a really cool title, though I’m still not sure I understand what it means…”
