During the first one hundred years of the Olympic Games (1896-1996), there were only two deaths. The second death came during the 1960 Olympic Games held in Rome, Italy. Danish cyclist, Knud Enemark ended up taking amphetamines prior to his racing event. This lethal combination of high speed racing and drugs caused him to collapse during the middle of the race. Tragically, Enemark passed away several hours later while being treated in a hospital.
