"The Holiday" Part III - Where does Miles take Iris on Christmas Eve?
The correct answer is 'Video store'
Yes, they spend Christmas Eve in a video store! Not my idea of the ideal place to be on the most magical night of the year, but it worked for them! Actually, Miles, being in the movie industry, has taken a great interest in the old movies that Arthur has recommended to Iris. Even though we don't see them renting any videos, they were probably there for that purpose. (Dustin Hoffman is also in the video store!)
Christmas Question 5
'Christmas Vacation' Movie 2 - What did Eddie do to the sewer under Clark's house?
The correct answer is 'Drained the motorhome toilet'
It exploded and made the Santa display fly into the sky.
Christmas Question 6
Yule Britannia - A traditional British Christmas dinner involves a roast turkey. In Dickens's "A Christmas Carol" what was Bob Cratchet's family going to be eating until Scrooge bought them a big turkey?
The correct answer is 'A goose'
The turkey-fowl was at one time often confused with a bird of that name, now called the guinea-fowl which was from Guinea but imported to Britain via Turkey. I have heard that the Turkish give the turkey a name meaning Mexican bird which is more accurate*. Right up until the Second World War, the turkey was a delicacy that only the rich could afford, so the reformed Scrooge was indeed being extravagant here. Goose would have been the usual Christmas meal in Victorian times. The boar's head was, historically, a popular Christmas dish in England and there is a mediaeval carol about it that is still sung today. [I have since been informed that the Turkish actually call it "hindi" suggesting, like the French "dindons", that it came from India. How odd.]
